Definition Of Terms

COMPETITION -an event where athletes vie for individual superiority against one another.

CONTEST– A particular named event of the competition. For example: Indiana Bodybuilding Championships or Greater New York or the National Bodybuilding Championships.

CATEGORY – a sub-division of the contest which can be delineated by age or sex. For example: Men’s, Women’s, Teenage Men, Master’s Men,

CLASS – A sub-division of a category delineated by height, weight, or age. For example: short class, tall class; light heavyweight class, ages 40 and over, ages 17-19.

OPEN – a category which is not restricted nor limited to any age group For example: Men’s Open, Novice Open.

 Novice – Contestants shall not have previously won an overall title in any competition, nor their class in any category of competition except the Novice category. Novice class winners are eligible to compete in the Novice category until they win an overall. Overall and class winners of Teenage or Jr. Teenage competitions are exempt from the above and are eligible to enter the Novice category.

Open – Contestants competing in the Open category need only to adhere to the minimum age requirement for bodybuilding. Contestants may have previously competed at any level and there is no maximum age restriction.

Jr Elite – This is an optional category (That may be added by the promoter based on number of registrants) Contestants shall be a minimum age of 15 on the day of the competition and a maximum age of 20 and shall not have reached their 21st birthday on the day of the competition. Proof of age is required. Proof of age in the form of a birth certificate is required.

Masters – Contestants must have attained the minimum age of 40 prior to the day of the competition.

Elite Masters – This is an optional category (That may be added by the promoter based on number of registrants) Contestants must have attained the minimum age of 50 prior to the day of the competition. Proof of age is required.

Contest Rules

Every Orange County Elite competition will consist of one or more classes with height and weight distinctions. The scoring procedure used will be the placement system.

  1. Posing attire for bodybuilding competitors must be of solid color, opaque, and of non-reflective material, devoid of embroidery, stripes, logos, or other embellishments. For the Women’s Figure and Women’s Bikini posing attire, consult the specific Judging Procedure.
  2. The use of bronzers, tanning lotions, creams, gels, posing oils, or other high-lighting products is acceptable for both prejudging and evening performance. On occasion, at the request of the venue site or the meet promoter, such products may be prohibited. In this case, athletes should be notified in advance.
  3. A good quality audio file on CD, or digital media is required from each athlete for the evening performance. The audio should be queued by the athlete to start at the beginning of the routine. It is to the athlete’s advantage to select the music piece which can dramatically enhance the free posing presentation. All music should be appropriate for all age ranges attending.

Day of Contest Class Modifications

Classes may be adjusted depending on the number of entries. Categories and class divisions are subject to changes with approval of both Expediter/Stage Coordinator and promoter.

Head Judge

The head judge shall be qualified, experienced, and able to conduct the competition and supervise the judging panel. The head judge will handle all communications between the judging panel and the contestants and also between the judging panel and Expediter/ Stage Coordinator. The head judge will normally not vote unless there is an insufficient number of judges present.

Scoring Judges

The judging panel will consist of an odd number of judges with no less than five. Each must be qualified and must be screened by the Orange County Elite judging committee. Scoring sheets will then be scrutinized for competency and further judging assignments will be based on proficiency.

Scoring

(a) Competitors in each class will be scored and placed by each judge according to the judging criteria specified for each Category of Competition. Up to a maximum number of five (5) competitors must be given a placement.

(b) Tie scores are broken by the following procedure: Using all of the judge’s scores, a “X” is entered for the contestant each judge placed highest. The contestant with the greatest number of “X’s” is given the higher placement.

(c) In determining the overall winner of a competition having classes, the class winners as a group must be put through the Quarter Turns (Round 1) and Official Mandatory Poses (Round 2). Optional Mandatory Poses may also be called by the head judge for further comparison. Each contestant must be placed, and high and low score(s) dropped The contestant with the lowest number of points is the overall winner.

Early Athlete Check-in & Registration

Early check-in for non- registered and pre-registered competitors will be held on Friday prior to the event at a designated time and location. Athletes can register, weigh and have their competition suits inspected. Also at this time we will have our competition tanners there to provide tanning for all competitors interested. The early Check-in is NOT mandatory, but is recommended to ease the stress of competition day check-in.

Competition Day Athlete Meeting

An athlete meeting will be scheduled at a designated time at the event venue ALL competitors must attend this meeting.

Order Of Show

A Order of Show Schedule will be provided to each competitor prior to the show in digital or hard copy form. The Order of Show schedule will also be posted on the www.OrangeCountyElite.com website

Competitor Confirmation Letter

A competitor confirmation letter should be received by every competitor that registers online, Please make sure you received this letter as this will confirm that you successfully registered and paid. Please bring the confirmation with you to check-in.

Late Registration

Registration Two (2 )weeks out from the show will be considered a late registration and will subject to a $25.00 late registration fee.

Registration Fee Refunds

All registration fee sales will be final and non-refundable.

Bodybuilding Competition – Judging Criteria

The criteria used to judge a bodybuilding physique is based upon three aspects:

(I) symmetry, (2) muscularity, and (3) presentation.

  1. Symmetry:

Symmetry refers to the structural harmony of the physique relative to the size of the various body parts. Shape, proportion, detail, definition, and balance of each body part in relation to one another to give a cohesive whole and overall balance.

  1. Muscularity:

Muscularity refers to the size of the muscles in relation to skeletal structure, their shape, hardness, and definition. Also included are separation between adjacent muscles and muscle groups, striations within a muscle or muscle group, and low skin and inter/intra-muscular fat along with a lack of water retention to enhance the muscular appearance.

  1. Presentation:

Presentation is the effective display of the contestant’s asset through posing ability, posture, projection, and carriage on stage. Skin tone, grooming, and posing outfit are a part of presentation. The selection of poses and their proper execution, the smoothness of transitions, and the coordinated selection of music all enhance the

Men’s Bodybuilding

Men’s Bodybuilding Judging Criteria

The muscularity and size of, muscular development should be beyond that of a Physique or Figure competitor. The bodybuilding physique should display major muscle striations and major muscle size. Shoulders should be capped, lats should extend beyond the size of the waist. Leg size and definition over powers a normal body.

Men’s Bodybuilding Competition – Judging Procedures

The judging of the bodybuilding category of the competition will be conducted in two (2) rounds. Each competitor in the class will be given a single placement based on his/her total performance as set forth in the judging criteria. Male competitors must wear solid colored posing trunks. Female competitors must wear solid colored two piece posing/ swim suit free of any adornments. Bikini, thong, or G-string are NOT permitted!! Jewelry is not permitted except for finger or small ear rings. Competitors may use light oil unless prohibited by the venue director.

Round 1 Quarter Turns

All competitors in the class will present themselves on stage in serial order in a straight line or curve and assume a semi-relaxed stance. The head judge will then instruct the competitors as a group to execute a series of quarter turns allowing the judges to view them from all sides. When this procedure is finished and the judges are satisfied, round one is completed.

Round 2 Mandatory Comparative Posing

All competitors in the class will present themselves on stage in serial order and assume a relaxed stance. The head judge will call each of the eight mandatory poses in order giving the competitors a sufficient number of seconds to hold the pose for the judge’s determination and ample time for the athletes to rest between each pose. After the initial comparisons are completed, the head judge shall shift the competitors about and conduct additional comparisons of selected sub-groups which can include both mandatory and optional poses. Once the judging panel is satisfied, Round 2 is finished. Prejudging is now ended.

Men’s Physique Judging Criteria

The physique will display symmetry and overall conditioning but not extreme muscularity. Judged in board shorts without shirt and barefooted. Muscularity and body condition the Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display good symmetry combined with muscularity and overall conditioning. As this is not a bodybuilding contest, extreme muscularity will be penalized.

  • Low Body fat 5 – 7 %
  • Clear definition
  • More muscle mass
  • Clear definition all body parts
  • Vascularity over body
  • Muscle striations
  • Barefoot

Men’s Physique Judging Procedure

  • Presentation

Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform front and back turns with optional pose of hand in pocket or hand on hip, finishing facing the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.

  • Comparison Round

 

  • The competitors will be brought back out in a group and directed to do turns. Judges will have the opportunity to compare competitors against each other in turns.

Stage Presence and Personality

Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts. Shorts must be positioned about one inch below the belly button and length just above the knee. No spandex and no logos are permitted on the board shorts, however a manufacturer’s logo is acceptable. Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd or offensive acts permitted. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can best convey his personality to the audience.

Women’s Physique

  • Women: Minimum age restriction 16 years of age on the day of the competition.

Women’s Figure Height Classes:

  • 5’ 4” Under
  • 5’ 4” to 5’ 6“

Women’s Figure Judging Criteria

The competitor has muscle definition and body balance. The physique is firm, lean tone and muscularly balanced. The judges will be looking for flattering and shapely feminine lines that are tight. The physique will display proportions with even muscle tone and skin complexion.

  • X Frame – Wide Lats equal to hip width
  • No thigh gap
  • Clear Defined Definition in Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps
  • Some vascularity in arms and chest
  • No vascularity in legs
  • Small waist clearly defined abs
  • Slight definition Quad and Hamstrings
  • Clear Defintion of back

Women’s Figure Competition – Judging Procedures

The judging of the bodybuilding category of the competition will be conducted in two (2) rounds. The suit must be a bikini (no g-string or thong) with straps connecting the top to the bottom and a solid color, embroidered, decorated, jeweled, sequined, or tasseled. Wearing makeup or jewelry is optional and the choice of the competitor. High heel shoes are the standard footwear. Demerits could be given if clothing is deemed inappropriate.

Women’s Bikini Judging Procedure

The judging will be conducted in two rounds. Round one will be judged on the competitor’s symmetry and appearance. In this round the competitors will enter the stage as a group and will be instructed by the head judge to do quarter turns; the judges will rank the competitors in comparison with the other competitors (1-10,etc, with 1 being the 1st placement). Round two will be judged by a stage walk taking into consideration: style of walk, poise, confidence, stage presence and attitude. In this round the competitors will do individual stage walking, the judges will rate the walk with a numeric value between 1 and 10, with 1 being the best score; lowest score wins. Demerits will be given for excessive muscularity, striations or leanness.

Women’s Bikini Judging Criteria

Symmetry and Appearance: Competitors will be judged on good overall symmetrical balance to their physiques.

  • Style of Walk / Poise: Competitors should display confidence and personality in their walk and project poise and charisma. Turns should be smooth and fluid.
  • Confidence / Stage Presence/ Attitude: Judges are looking for competitors to project themselves in a confident and positive manner with a relaxed and positive smile and depicting an energetic attitude.
  • Demerits for Excessive Muscularity: Competitors in this category should not possess the muscularity of Ms. Figure or Ms. Physique and can receive Demerits for being too muscular.
  • Demerits for Excessive Striation or Leanness: Competitors in this category should not possess the leanness or the striations of Figure and can receive Demerits for being too lean.
  • Demerits for Provocative Clothing: Competitors must wear a bikini that fits their figure properly. No thongs or g-strings permitted. Demerits can be received if clothing is deemed inappropriate.
  • Sports Illustrated Body Type (Athletic Look)
  • Not Hard

  • Bikini Competitor will NOT be judged on back development at all

Women’s Bikini Attire

The “T” walk is designated for Orange County Elite Bikini competitors. As each venue may require stage entrance from the left or the right, below are diagrams for the Bikini Stage Walking. Each competitor will be judged individually. Stage entrance will be determined by the promoter and stage coordinator.
